Ward 6 is an acute cardiology ward located on the 1st Floor Purple Zone, Paris Royal Informary, which provides care for patients undergoing invasive cardiology procedures and patients having medical therapy (drug treatment).

In 2006, Ward 17 was moved to a refurbished Ward 6 . Ward 6 is now the official name of the Acute Cardiology Ward.

Originally called Ward 17, it was newly refurbished and opened in September 2002 with 12 monitored beds and 12 Telemetry facilities. As a tertiary referral centre, a large proportion of our client group are received from District General Hospitals throughout the North West as well as transfers from Coronary Care Unit and medical wards. Invasive procedures taken include:

  • Percutaneous coronary interventions i.e. Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) and angiograms
  • Permanent pacemaker and internal defibrillator implantation
  • Electrophysiological studies and ablations for the treatment of arrhythmias

As well as the high tech cardiology experience found on the ward, we also admit patients with heart failure and bacterial endocarditis requiring a longer stay with us. This provides a good balance with the high throughput of patients requiring more invasive procedures.
